Fellowship in GI Endoscopy (FGIE)

A Hands-On Clinical Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

2 Weeks | Real-Patient Training | Live Clinical Experience

The Fellowship in GI Endoscopy (FGIE) is a focused, intensive two-week clinical training program designed for surgeons and physicians seeking practical, real-world experience in gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The fellowship is built around one central principle:

LEARN ENDOSCOPY BY EXPERIENCING IT IN REAL CLINICAL PRACTICE.

Unlike an observation-only program, FGIE places hands-on training on real patients at the centre of the fellowship. Participants train within a live hospital environment, gaining practical experience in endoscopic procedures under the guidance and supervision of experienced faculty.

Course Overview

Why FGIE?

Beyond Observation. Into Clinical Practice.

Endoscopy is a procedural discipline. It cannot be mastered by watching videos, attending lectures or observing procedures alone.

FGIE has therefore been designed around hands-on clinical learning, giving participants the opportunity to develop procedural familiarity through direct experience with real patients in a real hospital environment.

The FGIE Learning Model

The objective is to bridge the gap between knowing how a procedure is performed and actually experiencing the procedure in clinical practice.

The FGIE Experience

Real Patients. Real Procedures. Real Experience.

Doctors gain hands-on exposure to the complete endoscopy workflow, covering patient preparation, procedural assistance, and post-procedure care within a real clinical environment.

The Training Journey

01 - Understand

Learn the principles, indications, equipment and techniques required for gastrointestinal endoscopy.

02 - Practise

Develop fundamental procedural skills through simulator-based training.

03 - Experience

Observe and understand live clinical procedures within the hospital environment.

04 - Perform Under Supervision

Gain Hands-On Clinical Exposure with Real Patients, developing practical familiarity with endoscopic procedures under expert faculty supervision.

05 - Refine

Integrate technical skills with clinical judgement and procedural decision-making.

Hands-On Clinical Exposure with Real Patients

The Core of the Fellowship

This is what distinguishes FGIE from a conventional observership.

Participants receive hands-on training in the real clinical environment, working with actual patients and real endoscopic procedures under expert supervision.

Practical Training Includes

The emphasis is on doing - not merely watching.

Simulator training supports the learning process, but real clinical experience with real patients forms the heart of FGIE.

All hands-on clinical training is conducted under appropriate expert supervision and within established patient-safety and institutional protocols.

Curriculum

01 - Endoscopy Foundations

A concise academic foundation covering the essential principles required for safe and effective endoscopic practice.

02 - Patient Preparation & Procedural Management

Understanding the patient is fundamental to performing a successful procedure.

03 - Upper GI Endoscopy

Diagnostic Endoscopy

04 - Colonoscopy

06 - Simulator-Based Training

A Foundation for Real Clinical Training

Simulator-based practice provides an opportunity to develop fundamental technical skills before applying them within the clinical environment.

Simulation Training Includes

Simulation supports the learning process.

Real patients provide the clinical experience.

Clinical Decision-Making

Technique With Clinical Understanding

FGIE combines procedural training with case-based clinical learning. Participants develop an understanding of not only how procedures are performed, but also when and why they are performed.

Participants Develop an Understanding Of

What Makes FGIE Different?

01 - Real-Patient Training

Hands-on clinical training forms the central component of the fellowship.

02 - Hospital-Based Experience

Training takes place within the real clinical environment rather than being limited to classroom or simulation settings.

03 - Procedural Exposure

Participants experience the complete endoscopy workflow and develop practical procedural familiarity.

04 - Progressive Learning

Academic knowledge and simulator practice support progression into live clinical training.

05 - Close Faculty Supervision

Hands-on training is conducted under experienced faculty supervision with patient safety as the highest priority.

06 - Focused Two-Week Format

An intensive format designed for doctors seeking concentrated practical exposure without a prolonged training commitment.
